The role of the Staff Members:
Practice Nurse Practice Manager Reception Staff Doctors
Practice Nurse: The practice nurse in the Clinic will see patients who present to her independently, those who attend at organised clinics or those who are referred by the doctors. She will work according to agreed protocols with the other members of the Clinic team, liasing with the doctors on medical issues and working to her own professional standards as a Practice Nurse. Specifically, she will:
- Oversee and administer the Childhood Vaccination Programme.
- Give advice to mothers on bottle/breast feeding.
- Take cervical smears and advise on breast exams.
- Oversee and administer the Influenza/Pneumococcal Vaccination Programme
- Administer travel vaccines and advise on travel.
- Take blood samples
- Organise and administer the "Heartwatch" and diabetes clinics
- Advise on asthma management and techniques
- Check blood pressure and fit the 24 hr monitor
- Review repeat prescriptions for patients
- Carry out procedures like ear syringing, dressings, nebulising etc
- Be available to, and liase with, patients
- Link with hospitals and other health care providers
- Assist/chaperone on surgical & gynaecological procedures
- Play a key role in the medical organisation of the practice.
She is available by appointment at the Clinic 4 days /week from 8.30am. (Thursday excepted).

Practice Manager: The practice manager is responsible for the organisation of staff and the day-to-day workings of the Clinic. Her role includes managing the financial aspects of the Clinic, development of rotas for doctor's surgeries, overseeing the workings and presentation at reception, and ensuring ongoing communication between all members of the Clinic team. She manages the computer-based technology of the Clinic and is responsible for the maintenance of the premises.
From the patients and clients perspective, the practice manager deals with:

Patient/client satisfaction and complaints with the Clinic

Outstanding payments to and from the Clinic

Maintenance of, and replies to queries from, this website.

Reception staff: The reception staff work from 8.30 to 6.00 pm every day. Their job is pressurised as they field phone calls on the two incoming lines with requests for appointments, results, prescriptions and general advice while dealing with patients/clients at the desk, managing the waiting room and liasing with other members of the Clinic team. They aim to carry out these tasks with courtesy and efficiency. You patience is appreciated if there are delays. All 4 receptionsts are part-time. Identifying the receptionist that you are dealing with is useful when following up an issue.

Doctors: The doctors in the Clinic have been trained to deal with the full range of physical, psychological and social problems that may develop in the lives of our patients. In the classical role of general practitioners, they will treat patients of all ages, as individuals or in the context of family or other groupings. Educational and preventative health issues will be addressed on an ongoing basis. They will work as members of a team within the Clinic and liase with public health nurses, physiotherapists and other workers in the broader primary care community team. They will conduct individual surgeries at 3 Charleston Rd, ensuring full daytime cover at the Clinic.
